What needs checking before a garden retaining wall?

Measure the retained height, slope and nearby structures, and identify loads behind the wall such as vehicles or buildings. Garden terrace walls, gabion walls and taller retaining structures are not interchangeable. Confirm any structural design and approval requirements before agreeing materials or excavation.

Why is behind-wall drainage part of the scope?

Retaining wall installation should address water behind the wall and where it can discharge. Access for excavation, suitable backfill and connection to wider stormwater drainage need specifying. Do not choose wall height or reinforcement only from a garden photograph.
